Crown Lengthening Treatment

Crown Lengthening Treatment is surgery to remove gum tissue when not enough teeth stick out from the gum line to support a filling or crown. Some people have a lot of gum tissue around upper teeth & this can also be treated with crown lengthening. A temporary crown may be placed to protect the tooth or make surgery easier. You’ll heal in about 3 months. Then we prepare the lengthened tooth again for another temporary crown awaiting the final crown.

Sometimes removing a little gum tissue exposes enough tooth to place a crown or filling, but in most cases some bone from around the roots will be removed. You will get prescriptions for a pain reliever & a mouth rinse & asked to follow a soft diet & brush teeth near the stitches, avoiding the gums. Remove food with a toothpick or a water irrigator & for the first hours use ice on your face over the area of surgery to reduce swelling.
